Handmade Original Print – “The Holy Mandylion”- "Holy Shroud" -"Veil of Veronica" - (Acheiropoieton )
Description:
This piece is handcrafted by me with care and attention to detail. It is inspired by the work housed in the Church of the Presentation of Christ in Rostov Veliky, originally transferred from a wooden church in the Boris and Gleb region, which was destroyed by fire in the early 16th century (the original dates back to the first half of the 14th century and is now part of the Tretyakov Gallery ).
Technique & Materials:
• Black water-based ink
• Recycled beige paper (105 gsm)
• Linoleum block (hand-carved)
• Solid pine wood frame in beige-gold finish
• Glass protection: matte (to reduce glare and allow visibility of the artist’s signature and edition number) and clear glass layers
The image is hand-carved on linoleum and manually printed on recycled paper. Each print is numbered and signed by the artist to ensure authenticity and uniqueness. Because the printing process is entirely handmade, each piece may have slight variations, which is the true charm of handcrafted art.
Dimensions:
• Artwork: 21 cm (height) × 17.5 cm (width)
• With frame: 26 cm (height) × 23 cm (width)
About the Holy Mandylion:
The “Holy Mandylion,” also known as the “Image Not Made by Hands,” holds an important place among Orthodox icons of Christ. It is considered a sacred image, not merely a symbolic or romantic depiction, but one deeply connected with the living presence of Jesus who experienced both the joy and suffering of His Passion.
