About – ARTosmaria
Thank you for visiting ARTosmaria.
Iconography has always been my sacred refuge—and that is exactly what I wish to share with you through my work.
In the Orthodox tradition, an icon is not just a work of religious art or a decorative painting. It is a sacred vessel that brings the faithful into direct communion with the grace and presence of the person depicted. It is meant to sanctify the one who contemplates it and elevate the mind toward divine knowledge.
An icon is both symbolic and theological—a visual form of prayer and teaching. Orthodoxy, through iconography, does not teach us how to hold God within our human limitations, but rather how to rise toward His divine abundance. An icon is not merely a spiritual painting, as the secular world might perceive it, but a mystical encounter—a symbolic and personal representation that invites us into communion with the Archetype: the person it depicts.
My name is Maria. I am a professional theatre set designer and a mother of three. I first studied iconography 25 years ago, during my first pregnancy.
Though I fell deeply in love with this sacred art, family responsibilities kept me from practicing it for many years.
Recently, and with the encouragement of my spiritual father—to whom I am truly grateful—I returned to this calling. For the past two years, I’ve been creating icons once again, fulfilling what had remained a quiet, inner longing for so long.
🖼️ About the Artwork:
A) Some of my works are one-of-a-kind, drawn with colored pencils on craft paper. They are framed in handmade pinewood frames painted in a gold hue, with double glass—the outer glass being matte for a more refined viewing experience.
B) Other pieces are created on paper or canvas using various traditional materials such as acrylics, Indian ink, and egg tempera, and are reproduced using Fine Art Giclée technique.
This method offers museum-quality results, with exceptional detail and long-lasting durability, printed on high-quality cotton canvas.
🖼️ Available sizes:
